Sustainability is such an important issue and we're all trying to make conscious choices and do our bit to help the environment. We can all play our part in reducing waste and helping to lower emissions.
Sustainability in blinds doesn't end with roller blind fabrics though. You should also be considering the impact of the blind once it has served its purpose shading your windows.
Choose quality over Quantity
One of the best approaches to sustainability with anything is to buy as high quality as you can. In doing so your blinds will last you longer, so the impact of your decision to buy new blinds will have less of a burden on resources for years to come. Buying cheaper products that need replacing sooner are often made from more damaging materials that are less likely to be recyclable and are less likely to be repairable in the event that something breaks on the blind.
Buy Recycled Fabrics
At Brite Blinds we have sourced a range of fabrics manufactured from recycled yarns that can be used for roller, roman and vertical blinds. The fabrics are suitable for both domestic and commercial environments.

Consider the impact the blind has as a whole
It isn't only the manufacturing and purchasing of the blind that you should consider. What will happen to your blind when it comes to the end of its life? How much of that blind is recyclable? Where possible we use aluminium for metal components that is easily recyclable.
The new ECO fabric range for Roman blinds joins our existing range for roller blinds and vertical blinds are manufactured from recycled polyester yarns processed from PET plastic bottles. There’s no compromise on style as these ranges feature a trendy colour palette with great performance features that are from recycled coatings.
PET is a plastic resin that is used in millions of consumer products, along with food and beverage packaging.
PET can be defined as a consumer polyester thread derived from post-consumer recycled PET bottles (drinks bottles).
The bottles are processed through grinding, washing, melting, repolymerising, spinning and texturing into new yarns.

Bamboo’s natural elegance, coupled with its durability and versatility, presents a stunning wood venetian with a subtle textured grain
The delicately textured appearance of the bamboo slat creates a fresh and natural look in any home.
With its lightweight properties, it allows for effortless slat positioning of the blind to suit individual light filtering requirements. Bamboo venetian blinds are extremely versatile with their ability to compliment any centrepiece; accompany them with luxurious fabrics to create a richer finish or showcase the bamboo independent creating a minimalist and neutral feel.

Duette, Honeycomb or Cellular blinds are all basically the same thing. They save you energy by trapping a pocket or air between two layers of fabric. Just like a woolly jumper for your windows. In winter this honeycomb structure helps to retain heat in your room and in summer most Duette fabrics have a white backing to naturally reflect UV and keep your room cool.

Motorisation can play a significant part in controlling heat levels in your home or workplace. Blinds can be programmed using something like Somfy TaHoma to lift and close blinds at set times of the day to either take advantage of the warmth from the sun or to shade the room from the sun to avoid heat building up. Sensors can also be used to close blinds when internal temperatures rise to high or the intensity of the sun reaches a certain level.
